  2. Choose organic cotton pads over tampons. A pad that is wet and soggy can give off an unpleasant odor, so, change your pad every few hours, and more often if your flow is heavy. Nevertheless, pads are still a safer alternative to tampons, which can lead to TSS. This is a deadly medical condition caused by bacterial infections.
  3. Wear clean, loose-fitting cotton underwear and clothing. Try to avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes too often, as they can irritate and chafe the skin. Also avoid wearing synthetic fabrics, as they trap moisture and bacteria.
  4. Avoid scented products. Synthetic scents can irritate the sensitive skin around your vulva and vagina.
  5. Avoid applying too much pressure with a washcloth, as it can irritate sensitive skin. 
  6. Avoid douching. This can wash away good bacteria and cause an imbalance in your vaginal flora.
  7. Avoid un-sanitized items: do not touch the area before thoroughly washing your hands or underwear, making sure that all new underwear is washed before use.

  • Tea tree oil – Tea tree oil is another popular odor-fighting herb. It also has antifungal and antibacterial properties. Add a few drops of tea tree oil to your bath water or add it to a cotton ball and place it in the pocket of your underwear.
